Star Stuff Writer

About

dsc00091-ed.jpgMy name is Les Lawrence. I am, as Gilbert & Sullivan’s Pirate King said, a single gentleman, and I live in the Wilmington, Delaware area.

My employment background is in mainframe application development and management, in the financial services field.

My personal work with computers is a bit broader. My PC is essential, for me – for organizing information, for journaling, for accessing information. It is a powerful, flexible, invaluable, and constantly used tool.

Star Stuff Writer is, in an overall sense, about developing my writing skills. Beyond that, it is about developing my knowledge and skills in a range of other related interests.

I understand that a commercially successful blog has a well defined focus – on a topic – or on a particular set of topics. I’m just now learning to blog. And this blog may have a wider, less well defined, set of topics than would be considered optimal for a commercially successful blog. For better – or for worse.

Star Stuff” is an openly appreciative and admiring homage to Carl Sagan, who observed, in Cosmos, in the final episode, “Who Speaks for Earth?” that:

“There is no record in the entire history of the [Alexandrian] library that any of the illustrious scholars and scientists who worked there ever seriously challenged a single political or economic or religious assumption of the society in which they lived. The permanence of the stars was questioned. The justice of slavery was not.”

Thank you Carl.
